The VIII International Conference SITCON 2023 was successfully held on Thursday, October 19, 2023, under the theme

"Managing the Future by Learning from the Past - Contemporary Trends in Tourism and Hospitality"

The conference opened with welcoming remarks from Prof. Goranka Knežević, Ph.D., Rector of Singidunum University, and Prof. Miroslav Knežević, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management. The Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran, and Social Policy, Mr. Nikola Selaković, officially opened the Conference, praising Singidunum University for its outstanding organization and contribution to the industry.

The conference brought together renowned academics, industry professionals, and policymakers to discuss the latest developments in the tourism and hospitality industries, aiming to provide valuable insights and foster future growth of the tourism sector.

Three expert panels were featured:

  • Panel 1: A new impetus to the development of tourism in Serbia through the upcoming EXPO 2027.
  • Panel 2: Human resources as the backbone of tourism development, focusing on the knowledge and skills required for industry growth.
  • Panel 3: Sustainable development and the green transformation of tourism.

In addition to the professional panels, SITCON 2023 also featured a scientific session, which, as in previous years, included presentations of cutting-edge research and scholarly discussions on the latest scientific developments in tourism and hospitality. Out of a wide array of submissions, 23 papers were accepted for presentation. These papers covered a range of topics, including the economic impacts of tourism, innovative marketing strategies, and new models of sustainable tourism development.

One of the highlights of the conference was the keynote address by Prof. Jasmina Gržinić, Ph.D., a Full Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Tourism "Dr. Mijo Mirković," Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, Croatia. Her scientific paper which she presented, titled "Stakeholders in Tourism – From Development Plans to Recovery Strategies," offered a comprehensive analysis of the roles that different stakeholders play in shaping tourism development and navigating the recovery from global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

SITCON 2023 reinforced Singidunum University's commitment to advancing global tourism and hospitality management through innovation, technology, and sustainable practices. The success of SITCON 2023 confirmed the university’s leading position in promoting forward-thinking strategies that align with global tourism trends and sustainability objectives.
