Professor Jovan Popesku brings more than 40 years of experience in tourism education. His distinguished scientific career has been associated with his involvement in several higher education institutions and he has been affiliated with Singidunum University’s, Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management for 20 years. Currently, he holds the position of president of the Institute for Peace through Tourism IIPT – Chapter Serbia. Furthermore, he is the President of the Centre for Responsible and Sustainable Tourism Development (CenORT), Belgrade, Serbia. Likewise, he was the first Director-General of the National Tourism Organization of Serbia. Professor Popesku is one of the most-cited scientists in the field of tourism in Serbia. Tourism destination management, sustainable tourism management, tourism destination competitiveness, rural tourism and ecotourism, and tourism marketing are among professor Popesku’s main expertise. He has authored tourism destination management and tourism marketing related book, and over 100 journal articles and conference papers. He participated in and led more than twenty domestic and international projects related to tourism destination management, tourism marketing, sustainable tourism development, rural tourism, and tourism destination competitiveness. Professor Popesku is committed to sustainable tourism and cooperates to this end with various European and global organizations. He is a Member of the International Association of Scientific Experts in Tourism (AIEST).
