SITCON 2021 Conference Successfully Held

The International Scientific Conference in the field of Tourism and Hospitality SITCON 2021 was successfully held on Friday, October 8, 2021.

The topic of this year’s conference was Spa & Wellness tourism – Development, Perspectives, and Experiences.

SITCON 2021 conference was organized in an online format, via the Microsoft Teams platform. The conference was officially opened by the Rector of Singidunum University, prof. Goranka Knezević, PhD. The moderator of the conference was prof. Danijel Pavlović, PhD.

As in previous years, the sixth SITCON conference attracted many participants. The conference was attended by more than 100 authors and participants from the country and abroad, including university professors and scientists, tourism experts, industry representatives, but also numerous students who expressed great interest in attending the conference.

The SITCON 2021 conference had two very eminent and recognized experts, who addressed the audience as keynote speakers:

Prof. Melanie Kay Smith, PhD, Metropolitan University, Budapest, Hungary, on the topic:

“Opportunities and Challenges for Visegrad 4 and Balkan Spas”

László Puczkó, PhD, Health Tourism Worldwide, Budapest, Hungary, on the topic:

“Wellbeing Experience Engineering (WX) in Travel”

The keynote speakers and authors were appreciated for their participation by the Rector of Singidunum University, Prof. Goranka Knežević, PhD and the dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management, prof. Slobodan Čerović, PhD.

Out of the total number of papers submitted for this year’s conference, 17 papers were accepted for presentation, including two papers by keynote speakers. The conference made a great contribution to raising awareness of the importance of spa and wellness tourism as an important and promising product of a modern tourism destination, but also of opportunities and chances for further development of this type of tourism, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic and post-Covid period.

SITCON 2021 will be held online

After taking into consideration several factors regarding present epidemiological situation, this year’s conference will be held online. All information and support regarding access to the conference through the Microsoft Teams platform will be provided to participants prior to the conference.

Given that the SITCON conference was successfully held online last year, we can be certain that the conference will be at the highest level this year, thanks to the experience gained and additional improvements in realization quality.

Please note that this is a final deadline extension.

Due to the epidemiological situation in the World, the Conference will be held as a hybrid event with an emphasis on the “virtual” online component. All registered participants will be notified in time about the way of the conference realization (depending on COVID 19 measures). The Sixth International Scientific Conference in the field of Tourism and Hospitality SITCON 2021 (Singidunum International Tourism Conference) will be held at Singidunum University in Belgrade on October 8, 2021.

The main topic of this year’s conference is:
Spa&Wellness tourism – Development, Perspectives, and Experiences

SITCON 2021 conference will be held for the sixth time with the aim of providing a continuous contribution to the development of scientific aspirations in tourism, especially in Serbia, relying on the experience and scientific contribution to the realization of the previous five conferences (SITCON 2015, SITCON 2016, SITCON 2017, SITCON 2018, and SITCON 2020).

The principal aim of the SITCON 2021 conference is to provide a significant scientific contribution in the field of Spa&Wellness tourism as an important and prospective product of a contemporary tourism destination. The basic idea of the conference is to draw attention to the basics for further expanding of the knowledge, which is necessary to better understand the concept of Spa&Wellness tourism. Therefore, it is crucial to study contemporary trends in the tourism market which, among other things, point to the necessity of creating various Spa&Wellness tourism products (tourism industry and tourism destination products), especially having in mind the COVID-19 and post COVID-19 era. Therefore, it is necessary to draw attention to Spa&Wellness tourism and its importance for improving the overall competitive position of the tourism industry and tourism destination on the modern market.

The conference provides an ideal platform for the exchange of ideas and dissemination of best practices among the scientists and experts from various fields (travel agencies, tour operators, hotel enterprises and other segments of accommodation offer, transportation companies and companies related to other complementary activities, as well as representatives of tourism organisations and public sector) in relation to the SITCON 2021 topics.
